This course is
designed to be a student’s first systematic introduction to the sciences.
The course covers such topics as the scientific method, designing
experiments, simple machines, archaeology, geology, paleontology, biology,
and human anatomy and physiology. Its scope, therefore, is quite wide. There
are many hands-on experiments to do, and they all use household items. Teacher:

First- third
–The Lamb’s Book of Art By Barry Stebbing
$14.95 Description: This class will be using the above text for in
class projects. Both cover the same material. The Children’s Art Journal
is simplified to make the lessons easier for kindergartners. The following
topics will be covered: color, drawing, nature, cartooning, portraits,
clowns, anatomy, measurements, and creativity. Since the class will be
meeting every other week, I would like there to be practice assignments at
home. The children will practice the lessons learned in their sketch books
with the following supplies at home: washable markers, drawing pencils,
paint brush, kneaded eraser, and a ruler. Usually these are items we
already have.
The supply cost goes toward the supplies we will keep in class. The
sketchbook will be purchased in the supply cost. I will write assignments
down on the inside of the sketch books for ease of communication. Please
have the children bring them back at each class time. The assignments will
be simple and not a problem if uncompleted. I just want the children to get
the most out of the class and be ready to move on to the next lesson with
ease. The practice will help them improve and feel confident to be able to
move on to the next level. Teacher:

Adam to Abraham History/Bible Class:
Ages: Grades K - 2nd (PK if Mom
attends class with child)
Text: I have the curriculum and several resource books. Each
parent will be responsible for a chapter or we may be able to work in
pairs. We will have a preliminary
meeting to assign chapters. At that time I will hand out copies of your
chapter. We can pass the resource books around, or if you would like, you
can purchase your own.
Description: The book of Genesis
is the book of origins. The focus of the study will be the 1st
twelve chapters – Creation through the Table of Nations. These Old
Testament stories lay the foundation for understanding the life of Jesus and
His purpose for coming into our world. The messages taught in Genesis are
the same as those taught throughout the rest of the Bible:
1. God
is sovereign
2. God
has a plan which He is carrying out
3. God
is able to take the bad and the evil and cause it to serve His eternal
purposes, thus bringing great good out of it all.
This class will help
our little ones know from an early age that our favorite Bible Stories
(Noah’s Ark, Father Abraham, etc.) are so much more. We will read, hear
stories, do map work, artwork, try foods, experiment.
Teachers:
Co-op Moms Fees: Free Time: Monday 1:15 -2:45

Hebrew Roots History/Bible Class:
Ages: 3rd thru 8th Grades
Description: In this class we
will learn about each of the Levitical Holidays and Hanukkah. We will learn
what they symbolize to the Jewish people, what they mean to us as
Christian. We will have fun learning the details of the celebrations. Many
of the details as God set them out for the Jewish people are prophetic of
Jesus. This class will be a lot of fun and educational. It is my hope that
the kids and helpers will dress in period costumes for the festivities.
Teachers:
Partial Co-op. One BACH mom
will plan the class but will have helpers assigned for each class time.
Helpers may need to collect/purchase supplies, help prepare for the class or
just be there in class time to help. Fees:

Dates: We will not meet every
week of the school year. We are sharing our class time and cooping energies
with the Civics Class. Our tentative schedule is as follows:

December – 1st 2 weeks
Hanukkah
February – every week
Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread

Firstfruits, Pentecost
Location: First United Methodist Church
Civics Class:
Ages: 3rd thru 8th Grades
Description: A BACH Mom will lead a class series.
The class will overview how
our government works. One month will deal with the Legislative Branch,
one month the Judicial Branch and one month we will quickly cover the
Executive Branch. The class will be interactive with the children
taking the roles found in the various branches of government. Examples of
activities may include a mock legislature session, mock trial and mock
elections. The
parents will need to be involved both in and out of class to help your
youngsters be ready for the next session. This is not a drop and go class.
A field trip to Austin to see the capitol is part of the class plan. The
Legislature is not in session this next year, so there will not be a lot of
action.

Stock Market Game:
Ages: 9th -12th Grade
Requirements: Newspaper or
online access to stock information and SMG website. Also email account and
OS of Windows 98 or higher of Mac OS 9.1 or higher. This curriculum does
not have a text but provides an abundance of handouts which I have decided
would be best to be emailed to expedite class time and cost of printing.
Also it will be necessary to provide laptops for students to share with
group investing. Last spring semester seemed to work well. There were
enough laptops for each group.
Description: The Stock market
game is an internet based stock trading simulation. Using the newspaper and
the Internet, teams of 3-5 players each learn the basics of investing,
research companies, and make decisions about how to invest a hypothetical
$100,000 in common stocks on the NASDAQ, New York, and American stock
exchanges. In this realistic simulation, trades are made online using the
actual ticker symbols and real time pricing. Portfolios are updated daily
and monitored throughout the session. The Stock Market Game provides the
curriculum and related activities to teach and reinforce required skills in
many subject areas. Correlations have been developed that align the SMG
program with school requirements in economics, math, social studies, and
business education.
This game is played throughout the state and nation by many participating
schools. Various Texas sponsors including The Texas Council for Investor
Education and the SA Express News back a financial award to the top three
teams in the state.
There is also an opportunity to participate on the national level with a
program titled "Invest Write" a writing competition with specifics relating
to the students investment learning experience in the Stock Market Game.
Awards include laptops and trips. Depending on the number of students in
the class, BACH will hold its own awards and end of game party just like
Spring of 2007.
Teacher: BACH Mom
Fees: $35 per semester (up to $5
extra per month may be required for students access to newspaper stock
quotes depending on selection of and frequency of newspaper). These are
shared in their groups and especially helpful during game dates. Most
individual stock information will be gained from online financial web sites
throughout both semesters.
Time: Fall 2007 & Spring 2008.
Mondays @ First Baptist Church following Personal Finance Class from 4:30 –
5:00p, with an occasional hour long class when finance class dismisses early
on test dates. Classes will be held @ the church only in the fall semester
through February 4th which will include stock market instruction
and preparation to play the game. Beginning February11th through April
the game will be played which will require students to meet in their
competing groups with available internet connections and laptops. Because
the church does not have internet available to us we will plan on meeting at
the Boerne Daily Grind (or if there is a better suggestion) weekly for one
hour just like we did Spring 2007. The specific day and time for this is
pending determination.
Game Date: February 11th
through April 18th
Location: First Baptist Church of Boerne

Promotion/Graduation:
At the end of the year, BACH has a promotion and talent show night. Students
are promoted to the next grade and receive a promotion certificate. They can
also display school work from the year at academic tables that are provided.
Students can also perform a talent that night. We have had singing, playing of
instruments, reciting poetry/scripture, karate demonstrations, and many other
fun talents. Talent is optional, but fun to watch. It’s a great night to bring
those doubtful relatives! Graduation of any seniors usually follows Promotion.
Promotion/Graduation night will be announced at a later date.
